If you've ever umpired Little League this looks like a "what did I just see" moment. You try to keep it visually in your mind long enough to make the right call.

It's being discussed over in the umpire forum and they say it was a balk. It really does look weird though.

Happened to catch it live on the Tigers telecast - OFC586Mom and I both said "what was THAT?" at about the same time as the Tigers announcers...best part was the reaction of the hitter and Verlander trying not to laugh on the mound...it was pretty funny. A very public "brain cramp".
