This time last year son Andrew ( 09 pitcher ) was just starting rehab for a stress fracture in his lower spine. This caused him to miss his fresman year. He was pretty upset, but determined to be ready for next year. Forward to this year. Andrew made the varsity team and pitched in his first scrimmage game last week, 2 inn 5 ks 2 bb. Was just informed yesterday that he will be the number 2 starter behind a senior, and will also be the starting right fielder. Starting in the outfield surprised us a little but they said they wanted his bat in the line-up. He gets his first official Pitching start on Friday. The reason for this post is advice for players that have a set back, to try to use it to thier advantage. For as low as Andrew felt this time last year only makes this year that much better. In my son's case he took the off time to start working to make his body stronger especially his lower core muscles. Then in the fall and winter worked on arm strength and control. This really helped his velocity jump ( 87 gunned at P G Maryland State Showcase Feb. 17 ). I know it's hard at the time but try to take any set back and use it as a motivator. Also don't rush things because you don't want to make them worse. Good luck to everyone this year and remember that the harder you work the better you will play.
