I just heard from somebody on another discussion board that the Kentucky High School Athletic Assocation is putting restrictions on "host schools" baseball teams here in the state that have Fall ball games. One team has had to cancel it's very successful Fall league due to new rules set forth by the KHSAA. It states that no school shall host a team with 4 or more players from the host school. Yet there are no restrictions for Spring football or all year basketball teams hosted by schools.

I am trying to find out more about this since this rule must have been put in place just in the last week or so. I do know that our team had a Summer team and that we were supposed to play up to the start of school. But the coach had to cancel and said that he is going to meet with the boys soon. I am suspecting this is the reason why. After I make a couple of calls I'll let you all now what is going on.

If this turns out to be the case it is sad. Very sad. And it really upsets me that the KHSAA would do such a thing. But I am not surprised.

I don't know the genesis of this rule, but it is the rule in Ohio as well and has always perplexed me. In other words, no more than 4 players from the same high school shall be on the same fall ball team (i.e., after a certain August date which generally only includes fall). Would love to know the rational behind the rule.
After much research and a phone call or two I have found out that this a rule that has been in place for a long time. It's just that a lot of schools are breaking the rule and don't really know it.

If you want your HS team to stay intact just register as a Little League team or a Babe Ruth team. Register as an 18U team. There are a lot of coach's that do this. Now you can't use your HS team's name. For example my son plays for the Knott Central Patriots. During the Fall his team is the Knott County Yankees.

The reason the KHSAA is pushing this this year is so that it doesn't interfere with football. It seems that baseball is getting more popular than football in parts of the state and it is hurting some programs. But football can hold Spring practice and lift weights and condition almost all year with the coach or coach's in attendance. And nothing is said.

So there it is in a nutshell.
Tasmit - This makes sense. Lafayette plays as Lexington South in the summer and fall. They have different uniforms, equipment, bank accounts, etc.

I know one year they had Lafayette's helmet in a bag and the coach made kids put them away. Can be a sticky issue, but in all my years I only remember playing one team that had their true names on shirts. A program/coach that should have known the rules.

Thanks for updating - I'm glad there's no change.
