What is the distinction? Does it effect recruiting or scholarships?

NCAA has Divisions 1, 2 and 3 in baseball. D1 gets 11.7 scholarships per school, D2 gets 9 scholarships and D3 has no athletic scholarships.
1A, 1AA are football divisions.

D1-AAA are, I believe, schools that play D1 in their sports but have NO football program
D1-AAA, I honestly have never heard of that distinction before.
D1-AA has less football scholarships than 1-A.

And after this season ends, the names of Div IA and IAA will be changing to DI - Bowl Division and DI - Championship Division. And as stated above, these seperate sub-divisions are only in football. The other sports are just called Division I.
