School: Plano West

What he did: Ford hit a solo homer and a grand slam in an eight-run fourth inning Saturday in Plano West's 9-0 win over Georgetown in Game 2 of the best-of-3 Class 5A Region II final series. Plano West (38-2) came back later Saturday to win Game 3, 13-3, avenging a loss to Georgetown in last year's regional semifinal series and advancing to the state tournament for the first time. It was the second straight playoff series that Plano West won in three games.

The stats: Ford is hitting .355 with a team-leading nine home runs and 61 RBIs.

Who is he? A sophomore first baseman.

He said it: "This is our second year being in the playoffs, and we've accomplished so much in just two short years. It's just amazing to do this for the seniors that have put so much hard work in."

Coach said it: "He hits for power, and he doesn't usually leave runners on. If he has a chance to do damage, he usually does it. Just a very consistent RBI guy." – Kendall Clark

Did you know? Ford said he has received letters from several college baseball programs, including Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, LSU, Nebraska and TCU. Ford said he would like to go to Texas, Arizona State or UCLA.
