You guys in NJ may not charge due to budgets given to your schools (which are run by the towns, right)?

Here programs are run by the county and the budgets are next to nothing. There is a gate fee charged, just like for football, and given back to the school to be divided and used at AD's discretion. It doesn't belong to one team per se.

Tourny gates are seperate and $$ belongs to the team.

TPM, it's not so much because we are fully funded, (we are also run by a school district) to hear our coach talk there is very little that the school pays for outside of transportation and uniforms.

Most of our baseball budget is supported by fund raising done throughout the year. Last year I believe our operating budget was close to $8,000.

Wow, you are kidding? I thought you guys were rich up there. Big Grin It ussully takes a bout 20K here to run teh team, but lots of that is on field maintenance.

We don't have the best team but man does our field look great. Smile

I'll find out what a normal crowd is. In 2004, we had a lot of kids who were top prospects in this area, all the schools in the area were doing well in attendance and making money off of their concession stands. Those scouts love to eat. Smile Not sure how it is now.

We don't charge at my high school. In fact, nobody in the conference does for baseball. For one thing, our field is not set up so that we would be able to do so. We have fans that literally sit on the sidewalk of a somewhat busy city street!

I can't think of any schools that do charge. I know if we would have played at the minor league stadium last year, they sold tickets.

Regional and sectional tournaments you have to pay.
I saw the post on Northern VA gate fees. accurate.
As far as attendence, it varies heavily based on the weather and opponent.
I have been to games in mid-March (weak opponent and low 40s with drizzle) where we MIGHT have 30 people in the stands.
We played a game against a highly ranked team in May (nice weather too) where there was over 500 people.
Some of our district/region tourney games draw over a 1,000.

We don't have concession stands, lights or fences (our out field is part of the s****r field in the fall) very little field maintenance. (they mow it when they mow the lawn) also have trouble with the geese landing on it during games...they leave a big mess... very little attendance.. you forget most of the season were wrapped in blankets sitting on "lava bums" drinking our wawa coffee (you pa and jersey people know about wawa)
In West Virginia, our lone county High School has no gate fee. Local corporate donations each year pay for the cost of umpires. Concession stand money pays for equipment and travel expenses. Tax levies and bonds paid for the facility [grass infield with sprinklers, dirt base paths, state of the art lights]. A new press box is being built with corporate assistance. We probably average about 50 fans total in attendance for each regular season game. Regional championship games and Conference Tournmanent games usuall bring out a couple hundred local baseball fans.

In neighboring Kanawha County [several high schools] according to the fee takers at one school we play each year, the "county school board" requires all high schools in the county to charge a minimum of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. The gate fees are designed to cover the cost of umpires who must annually "negotiate" their fees and expenses in Kanawha county with the school board. The money does not go to the school budget, I am told, but to the school board who pay the umpires directly. It is very weird. Mostly just parents show up at the high school we play. Probably 40 people on average.

The sectional, regional and state championship games have a gate charge. All that money goes to the WVSSAC [West Virginia Scholastic Sports Association and I don't remember what the C stands for]. It is the governing body for all high school sports. They have a lot of money but not much clout [decisions often overruled by local courts; especially regarding the use of ineligible players and forfeiture of games]. I guess it is not just the NE Patriots that cheat.
