It depends on what kind of information you are getting. Typically, my son is getting baseball questionnaires first, and admissions information right after that. However, sometimes they would show up in the same package.

Much of the general college mailing is generated through participation in things other than sporst. In our case, it was predominantly SAT's. Most of the schools my son heard from had no idea, nor any concern (at least initially) whether or not he was an athlete. The information was useful however in introducing the merits of a college he had yet to consider. Then, contact with the baseball office of some of those schools was undertaken by him.

Keep in mind that baseball can go away with the next pitch or swing or slide. Find a school with a good academic fit as well.
