My son hurt his arm on Tuesday and the MRI shows a very significant tear (TJ)not full but might as well be. Doctor was very honest in saying rehab might work but it is so severe without the surgery he probably wouldn't pitch again. I know there is a huge amount of info on this site and I will be reading through all of it. However, one thing I have not seen is does insurance cover this?
I will contact the company but they are closed until Monday and I would just like to know what other people's experiences have been with insurance companies.

It will depend on your insurance company. My son had an elbow issue (not TJ but like it). I had switched employers not long before it. Had I still stayed with the old company (Cigna insurance), it would not have been covered. With the new company (United Healthcare), it was covered. Cigna considered his proceedure unnecessary and exploratory. United never asked a question, even though it had to be redone as the first surgery didn't take. United's always been great for us.

Thanks I was afraid a company might say it was exploratory. We have Aetna, supposedly their top program, so we will see.

"top program"

That's really the key here. Within ANY insurance company, there are different plans. One has to be careful when someone else says "**** will or won't do this". Each plan can be very different within an insurance company. I also think it would be very easy to get an exclusion or whatever the grounds were overturned. Not so easy to get a different network if the doc you want isn't in this network. However, some out of network physicians will work with you knocking off some or working with your insurance company to be participating.

If your insurance company does deny it.... be a very squeaky wheel and request backup from your doc on the issue.
