Everyday son received this invite below directly from the head coach of a big ten school. Doesn't necassarily look very personal, however it states "you are invited to be a member of this team"

I've scratched out the school name for confidentiality reasons.

We/son returned a response asking some personal questions regarding trying to distinguish this invite versus others. He received a assistant's response that was pretty vague and did not address specific questions of where the exposure, and or referral came from.

btw - Until this email we have had no contact with this school.

Will call the number provided if you guys think it may be justifiable.

Does anyone have any experiance regarding this trip?

I am the head baseball coach at the ??. I am emailing about a unique opportunity that is available this summer.  For the second year in a row, I am putting together a team of 15 high school baseball players (2014, 2015 and 2016 grads) to go to the Dominican Republic for a week. The dates of the trip are July 19-25, 2014. You are invited to be a member of this team.

This trip is unique in that you will have the chance to work with a small group of players, Dominican coaches and a Division I baseball coach for the week improving your baseball skills.  We will have regular workouts with Dominican players and play a series of games during the week. There will be tours, college guest coach lectures and the beach.  In addition, you will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the Dominican Republic - the world's most dynamic nation in terms of baseball (the Dominican currently puts more players in MLB, per capita, than any nation including the U.S.) We will tour and play at one of the MLB Dominican Academies during the trip.

It is a very good opportunity if you have an interest in playing college baseball.

I don't think these are serious recruiting opportunities.  They are a great chance to have a cultural experience if you happen to be both able and inclined to part with a lot of cash for the trip.

Generally I think there is a company that arranges these trips for a number of college teams, and the idea is to allow the college coaches a chance to go on an expenses-paid, semi-working vacation.

For recruiting, you'd be better served attending one of their on-campus camps.

I think you are doing the right thing to ask a lot of questions.  It is not personalized and there was no previous genuine interest on their part.  What you think you are getting out of this trip may be vastly different from what they are offering.   Caveat emptor.

Others have shared these invites on HSBBWeb but they were during the winter Holidays.  It appears to be a glorified camp that happens to be in another country in the middle of the summer recruiting season.  JMO.

Agree w this response. My son got same email. Bet they couldn't tell me what positions he plays.

If u have $2250 to spend go. Personally it's during our Summer season and son has zero interest.

I make this same trip to DR in January and put on clinics that costs $1000.  In January, all of the pro players are home before they leave and always stop by our clinic to give some advice. This year it was 100 degrees difference in the temp from when we left there to when we got back in USA. Somebody is making alot of money of of this gig.

We stay at a large facility and the food is great. Have made 17 trips there and seen some great players over the years. Occasionally see players in the US that were in our clinics in DR over the years. Not sure why anyone would pay that kind of money for a trip like that.
