Hello all,

My recruiting journey is coming down to an end and I am about to make a decision with a commitment very soon!! I have done the research on HSBBweb as well as on the internet and spoken to both coaching staffs and I have narrowed it down to Tiffin University that plays out of the GLIAC in Tiffin, Ohio, and San Jose State University that plays out of the WAC in San Jose, CA. I have been offered by Tiffin and am supposed to be getting one from San Jose State within the next week or two. My parents are more in favor of SJSU because my mother's parents live 10 minutes from the Campus.. But in the end it is my decision and at the moment I am leaning more toward SJSU. Both schools are recruiting me as a corner infielder (1B,3B) and as a catcher! If anyone has kids who have played against or play for these schools please feel free to comment or leave me any insight!! Thanks to all!

New HC at SJSU is well respected in CA & many other states on this side of the country. The WAC is a great conference to play in.

Keep in mind that you will get to play/practice way more just because of the great weather. I was at a game yesterday at Stanford and it was sunny & 66 degrees. Not sure if you can say that about Ohio.

As it is always said on this site...go where they want you, but weather should be a consideration!

Good luck!

BTW, keep in mind that there is very likely a wide difference in competition level between SJSU and Tiffin.  SJSU has been to the College World Series (early 2000's) and plays in a very competitive league...heading to the MWC next year I believe.  Conference-mate and rival Fresno State who won the CWS in 2008 is in their conference as well.

Having grown up in Ohio, I can also assure you that there is a wide gap culturally between colleges in Ohio and SJSU.  Not bad, just different.  Make sure you get a good read on what you're signing up for if you lean that way.

Good weather, good conference, lots of competition all good...but players are unhappy even at dream schools if they don't play.

Picked Off;

I was also at the Stanford Game. Many of pro scouts were watching specific p[layers on both teams.

Taylor Ward, freshman Fresno State catcher/OF and 4 of the pro scouts traveled to Australia with our teams.

Great Baseball at Stanford this weekend, to bad FSU came up on the short end. I did see a lot of scouts as well. Taylor Ward is the real deal, just give him a little time to figure BB at this level and he will be a good one. My son will be playing with him next year(fingers crossed).

CJB333,

Justbaseball is correct, SJSU will be moving to the Mountain West next year.

This post brings up a question in my mind about what is posted on message boards, Facebook etc. how much info is too much????? I happen to know one of the SJSU coaches and wonder what he would think if he saw this post. I don't mean to pick on this poster specifically but when I see posts like this it makes me wonder if it's good to post specific info about a player. Do coaches want confidential information out there where other recruits can see it and know who else has offers?

As I said I'm not trying to criticize this player but am really curious about other people's thoughts on privacy on messageboards.

CaBB,

You're not alone.   I had the same concerns when I read the post.  I think the poster is revealing a little too much information about himself AND his situation and status.  HSBBWeb is a fantastic place to share information and get information, but I think it needs to be a little bit more anonymous posted publically given his recruiting status & situation.  JMO.

Hello everyone,

First off let me thank everyone for all of your input with the schools as well as my post! I agree I was a little too open with the details and should have been more discreet.. Anyways just wanted to finalize things with this thread and I have made my decision and I have decided to attend Tiffin University and compete for their baseball team this coming fall! Thanks again everyone!

Thanks CabbageDad! For me it was the distance and the opportunity to compete for playing time, as well as the level of play. I mean sure CA would have been nice but it would have been too tough around the holidays trying to get home when everyone and their brother is traveling.. I am going to be competing for playing time primarily at 1st base which is my main position so I am excited about that. I just liked all the coaches I talked to, and I am going to watch a home game sometime which I think will be beneficial for me to see what life at TU is all about!

REALLY GUYS???  This young man just committed to a college to play the game we all love.  It is and should be an awesome point in time in his life.  Can't we share in his deserved excitement?  Isn't it a bit late for the scolding for non-visit.

OF COURSE a player should visit if at all possible.  Maybe he did and his comment  "see what life at TU is all about" is in reference to something more specific @ a ball game.  Maybe circumstances deemed that he was unable to visit - it happens.  Maybe the school wanted a commit by X date and the upcoming home game visit is the only time this young man can make it there.  Clearly, he took many good steps, had great dialog with coaches, impressed them enough for an offer, researched through available resources, etc.  He is going where he is wanted and where he has a chance to contribute.  There is plenty to celebrate here.  Let the young man enjoy his big day as he should.

That is my fault Gentlemen!! I failed to mention I have indeed visited Tiffin before unoffically!! But it was not baseball season when I visited so I did not meet with any of the coaching staff just went for a walking tour around the school.. By "seeing what life is all about" I really meant the school atmosphere during baseball season. My fault if I was misleading in my previous post.. Thanks Cabbagedad I am enjoying this great day! A big accomplishment for me in my life!
