Not sure how you would go about getting a tryout, but the independant Frontier League has been around for 10 years and supposedly has over 220 former independant league players who have signed major league contracts. Here is a link listing former Frontier league players who are currently playing in major league organizations.
My son has a friend who recently signed an independant league contract and was told by a ML organization that they would be watching him and if he did well would be offered a contract.
The MLB Draft is for amateurs. If a team is interested in the services of a ballplayer who is a pro or semi-pro, they can negotiate directly with him for his services. If he is contracted to some organization, they can negotiate with that organization. It's all business.
Yes they do!!!!! I noticed the FAU logo, congrats to Alex (whose shirt I found in the Westminster parking lot today after the game), but now is all cleaned and ready for Atlanta!
MLB have sometimes drafted a player playing in msbl league mainly because the player was ineligible in college or HS baseball and it was the only place they could be seen before the draft. keep in mind most players with any brains would play indy ball up until the draft, so MLB scouts can see them in a minor league environment and not a beer league
JD Drew and Matt Harrington have been drafted while playing in an independent baseball league.
To be honest if you have any baseball talent, and were bypassed in the draft you should be playing in an independent baseball league.
Keep in mind , if you struggle, you will be sent packing very fast. Just ask Matt Harrington released 3 times in indy ball.
