momandcpa - It would be rare to increase a scholarship for a signed or verbally committed player. Coaches will use the "new money" to get additional players to commit as TR posted. Coaches will continue to sign players up until school starts or the money runs out. Smile

Future year scholarship increases can be rare or normal occurrences depending on the school, but should never be counted by a player when making a commitment. If any player or family has a financial concern about the amount offered now, the college may not be the right fit.

There really are five parts to the comittment timeline now...

- Pre before phone call - Junior spring or earlier
- Phone call July 1 - Junior summer
- Early sign - Senior November
- April sign - Senior Spring
- Post draft - Senior summer

Most coaches we have dealt with have a "stable" of player options (unsigned seniors, JC guys, recruited walk on's) in case the draft opens up spots.

Have said this before, some some it is a long and winding road. But one that may pay off very late...

what happens to those "unused" scholarships?
some good explanations above, I'll add one more -
they may actualy already be in use,
sometimes if a player(s) is likely to go pro his $ has already been committed to other signees, which leads to interesting $ situations when guys end up on campus who were expected to go pro
