Dropped 3rd Strike

Catcher not cather...Sorry

It's scored as a strike out for the pitcher and a 2-3 recording the out. Assist to catcher putout for firstbaseman.

'Normal' strikeouts are scored as putouts for the catcher (2 unassisted), which is why catcher's have some many chances for fielding percentage.

Also,once you post in the lower right hand corner there is a little eraser like icon. If you click that, it lets you edit your post and correct your typos. I know this because I create many typos...

Because of this scoring, on rare occasions you'll see a pitcher get four strikeouts in an inning.

Why is the pitcher not credited with an assist on a strikeout?? Not looking for a quote of the rule

(The official scorer shall not credit an assist to
(1) the pitcher on a strikeout, unless the pitcher fields an uncaught third strike and
makes a throw that results in a putout

just the logic behind it!!

Because he’s the one getting credit for the K.

I think the logic on not giving the pitcher an assist is because he isn't making a play on a batter / runner. He's throwing a pitch.

By definition, a putout must be scored for every out, so the catcher gets credit since he's the guy who caught the out. Of course when he doesn't catch the third strike and has to throw it to first, the putout becomes the first baseman's and the catcher gets the assist.

I actually saw 5 strikeouts in an inning at a HS softball game last night. I've seen 4 several times, but I'm pretty sure this was the first time I'd every seen 5. There were also a few runs scored in the same half inning, so it was a wild ride.
