Why? If MLB/Agents and the media wish for players to stop, it will happen, if not...it will just go on in another form under a different cover. I don't mean to sound cynical but I've not heard a word about how culpable these other entities were in bringing about this issue in the first place. Money is the root and those 3 had their hands out as long as everyone kept quiet. Follow the canola...see who is self interested and usually you'll find out how to deal with it. Making pirahs out of Mark McGuire and Rafie Palmaro is a great way to keep folks from really understanding the issue fully.
I think by now we all know that a majority of players took illegal substances. To me I really feel like its a witch hunt. Find a way to test them and move on. Most importantly to me is to keep them away from the young HS and college players. That is the problem. What are they going to do with the 104 names? are they goin gto kick them out of MLB?
If you look at the already published lists you'll see with no exceptions the guys were attempting to return from injury in an accelerated manner, obviously it has implications to the player...but the media, specifically TV networks had a vested interest in getting "names" back on the marquee instead of having to wait for new blood...in the same way, if I'm an agent my % is much higher on a veteran returning guy than a rookie at league minimum....and I guess MLB had NO ONE in the front office wondering how these guys with career ending injuries were making it back in such great shape...but the TV revenues were going through the roof..hummmmm...money. It's all about money. If the truth be told the real victims here are the guys who couldn't break in during this time because of vets that hung around beyond what their bodies actually would allow....If I was one of them I'd be doing the "Mother of ALL Class Actions" against these huge money machines.....a good lawyer and a little bit of gumption and my stolen career would be funded completely...(You don't think they'd quietly settle do you? One smoking gun...a memo from the MLB front office...some guy witnessing a conversation...and it's easy street for me baby).
