Greatest feeling in the world - being on the bottom of a dog pile after your team just won a huge game.

Worst feeling in the world - having to stand around and watch the other team celebrate in the dogpile.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. Thomas Jefferson

I agree, he created some space for himself. BUT, it also showed how uncomfortable a 7 footer is covering a guard out on the perimeter...I don't know, perhaps utilizing standard fundamentals and getting your hands up may have prevented a good look at the three? The worse case scenario would have been that Rivers would have driven around him and pulled up for a short jumper and we would have seen OT. Either way...it was definitely a classic!
I know very little of basketball and all the strategies that come with it but I'm thinking that Coach K outfoxed Coach Williams on that last basket. I think Coach K set it up for Zeller's man to set the pick because all night they have been switching off. So by doing this then the slower Zeller will be guarding a much faster Rivers. So now if Zeller stays close then Rivers can drive past for layup and tie or he backs off and opens up space for a jump shot.

But then again I still don't know that much about basketball except DUKE RULES.

You got it. It's a standard pick and roll play. If you freeze the video at the 1:12 second mark you will see one of the Duke big men setting a pick on Rivers' man. As Rivers dribbles to his right the big man cuts down the lane. Freeze it again at 1:13 as the big man steps on the A in ACC. If Rivers can hit him with a bounce pass with 4.4 seconds left there's another Duke big man on the right block.

If the ball gets to the first big man they have the UNC defenser in no man's land in the middle. One of them will get a dunk. If Rivers can't hit the guy cutting it's his move. Rivers had hit five three's already. He was hot at the end of the game (scored 19 in the last 15 minutes). He was feeling it.

In all actuality the ball was suppose to go to Dawkins, Duke's best shooter but he made very little effort to get open...He obviously didnt want the ball in that situation...The pick and roll is as old as basketball itself and usually players will not swith if they can help it but with the game on the line you have to maintain constant pressure on the ball no matter what so you switch defenders automatically ...thats why Zeller is on Rivers...Zeller was sure not comfy guarding on the perimeter and I honestly thought he expected Rivers to drive to the basket for the tie and OT..thats why he was off of Rivers some...Rivers had view of the clock too Zeller didnt...You also cannot deny the man with the hot hand, Rivers was in the Zone...Rivers is not a true shooter but he is a scorer

Also Rivers wanting the ball in that situation and Dawkins not wanting it...Is why Rivers will play in the NBA and why Dawkins has been a constant underachiever...
Dawkins did what he was supposed to do. He came off the baseline and came up high on the opposite side of Rivers. If you frezze the video at 2:02 you will notice he's wide open with 3.3 seconds. But why give up the ball to a guy with the same shot and risk a deflected pass when you're hot? The play was standard rotation. Every player did what they were supposed to do.

Yeah but he was lazy coming around and only after Rivers committed to the opposite with the dribble did he really become wide open...I agree rivers made the right decision...I didnt think the three was coming till 2 seconds left I was sure he was gonna take Zeller to the basket
I want to address two issues:

1) From a basketball standpoint had Dawkins broke any sooner he would have drawn his man closer to the pick and roll play and therefore closer to the lane in the event of a bounce pass. That play was designed to go to the lane or be in the hot man's (Rivers) hands.

2) You must have an issue with Dawkins. Keep in mind he's an amateur athlete, college kid. If we were discussing baseball you've done the equivilant of ripping the outfielder being lazy backing up the outfielder who made the diving catch.

One thing we don't do on this site is criticize college kids unless it's reprehensible social behavior. The reason being is many of the posters on this site have kids playing college ball. How would you like it if some yahoo went on a board criticizing your kid for the way he plays the game? It's tough enough they have to deal with the media.
