Dynamic stretching is virtually everywhere now with all MLB team using it, along with most NCAA teams. Of course, it has trickled down into youth baseball as well, as it should because it works & is a must for a well-rounded training program.
From a football standpoint, I have seen at the high school and college level very little static stretching before practice or competition. As Jon says, many baseball teams are headed in that same direction.
Static stretching is important for flexibility, but it is NOT a warm up. Dynamic Stretching is a warm up. It is important that you start slow and build up.
Dynamic stretching is all we do anymore. Of course, it doesn't hurt that one of my coaches is an athletic trainer at a local physical therapy office. He'll work the players through their warm up routine, then they'll run it themselves the rest of the year.
