NOT True! The pitcher is held accountable for those batters that score but ONLY if they would have scored with ERROR FREE play. An error or a passed ball will change the whole situation. Let me give you a for instance. If there are two outs and the pitcher walks a batter and the next batter reaches base because of an error, NO runs scored because of that error or after that error, will ever be earned because the pitcher did HIS job.... Blame the defense because they faltered (error) and allowed the inning to continue. Still confused? In order to determine earned runs the inning must be reconstructed without errors, passed balls (not wild pitches), and catchers interference.
Hope this helps.

Absolutely! A batter that reaches base because of an error and subsequently scores can NEVER be an earned run. Also an error, no matter when it is made....1st batter 2nd batter whenever, is actually an “out” when computing earned runs. The key work here is “Reconstruct”....Earned runs cannot be computed until that inning is over.
