Everything is going good over in the sticks of East Texas.

In District 17-4A the standings look like this:
Kilgore 2-0
Hallsville 2-0
Longview Pine Tree 1-1
Marshall 1-1
Whitehouse 1-1
Henderson 1-1
Jacksonville 0-2
Nacogdoches 0-2

This will be a tight race with the frontrunners expected to be Marshall, Kilgore, and Pine Tree. The big game for us (Pine Tree) this week will be Kilgore vs. Pine Tree. This will be a good pitching matchup between Casey Whitmer (Kilgore) and Brian Shore (Pine Tree).

Also, the white bass are running in the Sabine River right now.

I was told by a mlb scout friend of mine that there is a kid at Liberty Eylau HS that has quite a bit of talent. He's a junior and plays SS and does some pitching for them. Anybody out there know anything about this kid?

We played them in a tournament and he came in to try to get a save. He ended up with a loss because we hit him whenever he threw his curve. If he had stayed with his fastball we would have never had a chance. I don't think we even fouled one off. Don't remember his name but so far he is the hardest thrower we have seen this season. I would estimate 94-95 mph with good control.

Thanks for the info. The guy I was referring to was VERY impressed with him. Come to think of it, I think he told me about that very game when he was telling me about him. It's great to see kids from smaller towns getting a chance to get seen by some MLB teams.

Is this the kid that played with the Pelican's for a while. If so, I remember him for sure. Big kid with a ton of upside. 5 tool player no doubt. Hard to believe he's at a 2A school. I bet he tears up that level.

Yes, he played for the Pelicans a few years ago -- Jerrod was one of our top 2 players last summer. He threw 90+ from the outfield at Baylor. I think he plays SS for Hughes Springs, but I believe he will play OF in college -- his speed and arm can be a real weapon.
