luvbaseball - from my perspective it is pretty bad when there is no accountability. These coaches can make decisions any which way they want because no one is looking over their shoulders except other coaches. Is there any accountability in your area? BTW - I luv the Chesapeake area.

MidloDad - In your coach horse trading statement, which end-of-the-horse is making these decisions? I understand your message, and there is a lot of truth there. However, it becomes very evident that some coaches want to protect certain players at any cost. That results in some kids (not coaches) getting the shaft and that bothers me. As an adult I can handle it, but these are deserving kids who have worked very hard to be recognized. These are kids who's baseball future may or may not move forward because of some deal coach x made for another player coach y is promoting. Let's face it, there is a lot of promotion and self-promotion in baseball especially when it comes to recruiting and recognition awards such as this. Alot of these senior players are set for the next level. Some seniors and juniors aren't, and will be affected by these behind closed door deals. As Capt Renault stated in the backroom casino in Casablanca "I'm shocked, shocked to find gambling going on here!"

I'd like to see some accountability. Out of accountability, we will see more fairness and less political maneuvering. All those in favor say "I". Oh, that's right we can't change this, it has to be done by the coaches and ADs.

College coaches don't care about HS honors. I understand what you are saying and agree with almost all of it but the above quoted part.
Have to go with Midlo on this one,he hits nail on head.We have put our faith and our childrens welfare in these coaches hands and need to back them in the decision making process, but this faith doesn't mean omnipotent and sometimes is respectfully challenged. No doubt these recruiters should not put too much in these compliments ,as Midlo pointed out in his post, over in the Central.Definitely not the consummate tool, but certainly one in the box to draw and use.Good luck to all our kids in their endeavors and accomplishments. Smile
College coaches and pro scouts certainly don't care about "recognition". Their jobs are always on the line, so they try to get the best players, not worrying about whether or not a kid was lauded via some roundtable of high school coaches. As for "fairness", it doesn't exist, unless we want to start handicapping kids by physical ability or intelligence, that way a kid with very little baseball ability can compete with a stud when it comes to voting. Why should that kid be denied an opportunity to be All-State? It's not his fault his genes are "faulty".
Coaches ARE held accountable, by the way. In the age of blogs and email, even idiots like me get to wax philosophic about everything under the sun Razz!
To fix the "problem", we should allow parents and grandparents to vote for "all-whatever" honors Wink. They, like pro sports fans, are always going to be the most rational voters. We all know that the system is not perfect, but it never will be, so let's move on... Unless we still want Michael Jordan and Cal Ripken on the All-Star teams this year!

Game at Old Dominion is still on at 7! It should be a great one!
Captain...loved your last post, spot on! To quote one of my old mentors (Eddie Pellagrini, BC Head Coach 1957-1988):

"The game will tell you how good you are, not your parents, not the people in the stands, not the writers, not your friends. You always measure yourself by what the game tells you."

CONGRATS TO MAURY!!
