I don't understand your point at all. The SED had four teams that were widely regarded as some of the best in the state. The Beach has one. That one is Kellam.

Put another way, the Top 5 teams in the area were/are Kellam, NR, WB, Hickory, and GB. ie. 4 of the top 5 were SED teams.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but every one of them have shown the capability of losing a game here or there! Especially when one great team plays another! Someone has to lose. What one very good Kellam team has to do with the strength of an entire district is beyond me.

A few weeks to a month ago I posted that probably only Kellam stood between two teams from SED going to State. It looks like they had to be at the top of their game to do it too. Good job by Kellam and they are a worthy team to advance.

Looking at the scores of the games around the State in the round of 16 there are a lot of 1 run games. That means that the field is very balanced among the best 10-12 teams in the state and the winners are making the key plays or getting a close call to get wins. They are not overwhelming each other. I would expect more of the same at states.

One last thought on the SED, let's remember Great Bridge finished 4th... that's right... a distant 4th in the SED. I think most reasonable people would think that they are amongst the 10 or so best teams in the State. They went down to SC at spring break and whipped a top 10 team and played a top 5 team there to a standstill. They are very good and defended their title well but yesterday Kellam was one run better.
Paintboy, I assume you chose to focus only on the post season games because it gave the Beach District a winning record over the Southeastern District. My recollection is that the SED went either 5-0 or 6-0 against the Beach District in games played during the regular season. That would make for an overall Beach District record of either 2-5 or 2-6 against the SED.

Championship game was awesome! Rice was cruising for 3 innings before Kellam got to him to take the lead for good. Sammy Sinnen pitched like a Champion! as the pressure picked up so did his velocity, cracking 90+ mph a couple times. Over all it was a great game to watch, both teams are class acts and played the game the way it's suppose to be played. Congrats to Kellam on the win, stay inspired fella's!
Nice article by Chris Carlson of the Pilot on Kellam vs Nansemond River regional championship game. I can't remeber all the folks (especially grown men) that told me the article had moved them to tears...
Both teams are battle tested, championship winning teams that are hoping for a rematch this Saturday night ! Outside of one uncharacteristic bad defensive inning for Kellam, it was a very close, intense, well played game with alot of great baseball players competing at a high level. Nansemond River is loaded with a lineup full pitching, hitting and defense ! Good luck to both Kellam and Nansemond River tomorrow night, hope to see them play again Saturday night !!!

WB Reporter I do believe that the games you are referring to was during spring break. Those games did not count in any standing and most teams really did not care if they won or not. Actually some of the teams played non starters to get them experience. What is the record for games that really counted?

hahaha...yeah. I would wanna forget the Hickory/PA game as well.
Paintboy,
Not sure I see value in stirring the pot between the SED and the Beach over 2 games. Many other strings have voiced opinions that there were 4 very good teams in the SED and 1 in the Beach so I don't know how 2 games fairly compares two districts.

I think our time would be better spent rooting for either of these teams to bring another state championship back to Hampton Roads (like the SED did last year).
In the end, Kellam has a baseball organization. There are a couple of teams in the beach who at least try to replicate the formula, but are only capable of making noise in the dugout and on this forum. The rest of the schools in the Beach field a team each year without the desire and or capability to create an organization for player developement.
