Do the yellow dimple balls used with many pitching machines damage composite bats or shorten their life span any more than a traditional baseball? What about their effects on wood bats? Does anyone have experience with the leather "made for pitching machine" balls?

I'm also looking at the ATEC Casey Pro Pitching machine. Anyone have experience or feedback they'd care to share? I really prefer live pitching, but my diminished velocity and aching 50 year old elbow have me considering the alternative.

Thanks in advance!

Dimpled balls are a lot denser, they should have no impact on a wood bat however, which is what you should swing if you are serious enough to go to the expense of a Atec Casey Pro.

They are an excellent machine, top of the line, other then the programable types. You will be very happy with your machine.

Don't forget about the possibility of front tossing underhand about 15-25 feet from the hitter. A swift underhand or overhand toss will require the reaction time of a 90MPH fastball. It will also allow you greater flexibility in placement of the pitch to work your batter.

We have been using a very excellent instructor who is in his 60's, he works just as I describe and can go 8 hours a day throwing.

My son has not hit off an Atec in about 6 years. They are an excellent piece of equipment if that is how you choose to go.

I wouldn't use dimpled balls with metal or composite "Gamer" bats. With wood they are fine. I only used dimpled balls, in my backyard cage, when it was real wet out or with snow on the ground! They are just too hard for cold weather use outdoors anyway.

I like the special batting machine leather balls (Jugs, or many others to choose from these days) as they, with their reinforced stitching, wear longer. I have used the same bucket of sixty for 3 or 4 years!

We have a Jugs Curve ball machine that is rarely used except for specific practice on sliders. Other than that, my 60yr. old elbow throws to him from about 20ft out (behind a very L-Screen, "dart-throws" I call it) where I can sit on my bucket, hit my spots while replicating 90mph reaction times.

If you aren't comfortable or can't throw well any longer then the Machine can be justified and order the machine balls for long life.
We use the yellow jugs sting free balls in our back yard cage, the houses here are close together and we try to keep the noise dowm for the neighbors. They swing wood most of the time or a old allum. bat with a bat sleeve on it. We used Baseballs when we were breaking in their Stealth speeds. Jugs or Pro nine both make good pitching machine baseballs. We have a Hack Attack its a great 3 wheel machine.
