Ejected and Out?

So is a sweatband jewelry too?? Our umps here have let the rubber bands be worn.

Penalty: Team warning/ejection...

Having a bracelet in his pocket is not wearing it....many times I have told players to remove a bracelet and told them to put it in their pocket...

This Umpire is uninformed, under-educated in FED rules and seriously OOO.....


Sweatbands are not jewelry, however the rubber type livestrong bands are considered jewelry......

tell them to take it off....move on, play the game...

I was going to say that if he ejected my player for that he would get to enjoy a 2-fer because I'm going too.

Both FED and American Legion have ruled that the various "cause" wristbands are to be treated as jewelry. The "Phiten" style necklaces, though not metal, are also considered jewelry.

Apparently nobody told the umpires in Southeast Missouri that.. the high school I was at last spring nearly every player wore those necklaces and all sorts of things. Only one umpire ever said anything about it. It really surprised me...

Ejected???

You have to be kidding!

Have the kid put the jewelry in his pocket and continue the game.

No big deal, not disrespectful to the umpire or the game.

FED can write rules and interpretations and make clinics mandatory and create Points of Emphasis, but they still have to rely on the states and local chapters to hold their umpires accountable.

You're absolutely right. I know here in Illinois there was quite an uproar this past spring during the boys basketball state tournament. A team was wearing a uniform that was illegal. They had worn that uniform the entire year and had never been penalized because of it until the championship game. Only then were the officials forced to call the technical foul. Rules need to be followed all the time; not just when someone feels like it.

My question is what was this umpire thinking? What ever happened to common sense.

so this kid gets thrown out of a game not for cursing or throwing equipment but an item of jewelry falls out of his pocket.

seems like every year the powers to be sit around and make up these ticky tack rules.

Update:
Parents and coach appealed to league officials and the ejection (and subsequent next game suspension) were over turned.

he got to play the next game but the out is in the book.

certainly should have been....


In my association, this would have been met with a possible suspension, a definite review with the chapter rules interpreter (me) and then a remedial game with a veteran and a through evaluation.........and most likely demotion to non-varsity assignments....

In my association any misapplication of the rules results in a re-evaluation of rating and game assignments with a minimum loss of at least two games and any chance at a post season assignment.

He should have at least had a discussion on common sense with his superior.

Worst part for the team is the out ended an inning with a runner in scoring position and we lost by one run. Coach should have stood up but apparently did not know the rules.
