Just a couple of interesting tidbits on this election day.

According to current polls, there are roughly 33 scenarios that result in a 269-269 electoral vote tie.
There is one scenario in which Bush is president but Edwards is vice president.
There is even a scenario in which Edwards is president for 2 years.

This is all perfectly legal and spelled out in the US constitution.

How it works is because of the 269-269 tie.
In the case of an electoral tie, the US Hous of Representatives decides the president.
Each state is given 1 vote for president. Since the republicans control the house, Bush would president.
However, there are several senate seats hotly contested this year and it is possible for democrats to gain control of the senate.
The senate in a tie picks the vice president. That is how we could have Bush/Edwards.

If in a tie, the house of representatives itself votes in a 25-25 tie, then there is no 'official' president for 2 years until the house elections and a revote is taken.
During this time, a defacto president runs the country. This just happens to be the senate position Edwards has. Thus he could be president for 2 years.

Just some election day fun!
