And I am by no means a Dodger fan. I thought my words may have been a little too exuberant, so I'll just say that he is my favorite reliever in baseball, taking nothing away from Rivera. Gagne's run from 2002 to 2004 was extraordinary, however. He totaled 152 saves in that 3 year domination of NL hitters.

I was very surprised to read in our local paper this morning about the upcoming surgery for Gagne, one of the best closers in baseball. It sounds like it is a strange procedure ... especially considering the fact that he has already had the nerve re-located.

My gut feeling tells me that this is the beginning of the end for Gagne ... and for that I feel very badly. Whether he is the best or not, he has contributed a great deal to the game and compassion for his situation should outweigh any concerns about him being tagged 'the best' ... that is hardly the concern for us Dodger fans and your description of him as such shouldn't trigger any unnecessary rebuttals that have nothing to do with your subject in this thread.

Thank you. I know that Dodger fans feel badly, first for Gagne, and secondly for your team. As far as the humbugs that take issue with each and every word posted, I've got thick skin (usually)so not to worry.

We feel badly too in the North because he is the only player from the Quebec in the MLB...The news is like a punch in my face...

He is our pride here, but I know that there are some kids knocking at the Mlb door and the closest one is Russel Martin that probably you guys heard about during the spring training...

The way Éric took since 04 show us how mentally strong he is to come back after each failure and I hope that ,even if two surgery in one year is very hard, he will comeback strong and for the whole season now in 07!

Update on Gagne ... from sports report on radio ... apparently the nerve that was removed was only a sensory nerve, not a motor nerve. Based on the radio report, Gagne could be throwing within 3 weeks and may be back on the mound by June. That would be great.

Yep but with the last year recovery he loss 3-4mph trowin' under 95 ...
If he come back to early will he lose other velo!?Hope not ... and hope he will get back very strong!

At the end with 91mph pitches he will go back at the starting pitcher position!
