Erstad to the Sox....

Good pickup in light of Podsednik reinjuring groin and being out 6-8 weeks. Pods might be good to go on opening day but you never know with that type of injury on a speedy guy. Think Erstad can still play if healthy and provides needed backup for Anderson.

He will be very valuable.

He brings experience,leadership and charachter.

He can take left while Pods fully recovers.
He can spell the old man in right.
He can be a safety net for Anderson if he starts off like last year.

At this time, I'd say Anderson and Sweeney are in a dead heat! Actually IMO Anderson should be second among those two. I'm partial but think Sweeney is better than Pods also. Only thing Pods can do better than Sweeney is run! There is no contest defensively and Sweeney is also the better hitter.

The question is, will they give Sweeney a chance to play every day? With a good showing in spring training, I think they will.

Erstad, if he stays healthy, could have a BIG impact.

You know there were several other future first rounders at that same event. Don't have time to look up (terrible memory) his name right now, but do you remember the kid from Oregon? He played at Arizona and then was drafted in the first round. I believe Jeff Clement might have been there too.

Usually not so one sided when it comes to players, but Sweeney grew up in our building!

Ton of big time players there, though.

Even though I'm a Cubs fan I'd like to comment I've always liked Erstad. Seems to be hustling and not one to slack off. I think he could do well with the Sox.

My first thought about the signing is that he could play some outfield and first base, and be a strong lefty off the bench . Even if he does not play a lot, he is a perfect replacement for Ross Gload.

I'm sick and tired of these guys having their surgeries before spring training. They are never ready to go and 100% by the time the season starts. If Pods could have had his surgery earlier, than I want Williams to fine him. What a stroke.

No doubt about it Tuzi. It's like they aren't going to visit the Dr. on their day off.

Pods always struck me as a player with his head put on the right way. Maybe there was a reasonable chance he would heave healed without surgery which of course is always the best thing.

I agree tuzi, Big Frank id the same thing a fews years back, waited so long and couldn't start the season. As far as pods however I thought he hurt it last week while working out, but I could be wrong.

If healthy Erstad could be a big contributor for the White Sox. This team is in need of much more offensive production from the outfield positions. Erstad could possibly be a short term answer.
