Anybody know what the broadcast quality is for some of the smaller D1 schools? For example, Brown vs. Northeastern…. would that be like a normal tv broadcast or would it be the schools streaming camera with an ESPN logo?

That's a good question. I think that it's all handled by ESPN but depends on the conference and your internet provider.
The Brown v Northeastern game isn’t listed on either teams schedule as being broadcasted. Is it listed on ESPN+? The major conference games are picked up by their conference broadcasters. When you see an ACC game on ESPN+ it’s being handled by the ACC Network.
I looked up Boston College. Their ACC games are broadcast by the ACC. Now that they’re in conference play almost all of their non conference games aren’t broadcast. There probably isn’t an organization to do the broadcast. One is broadcast by FLOBaseball whomever they are. Chances are no one would watch anyway. BC draws 250-300 fans to ACC games. And it’s free.
If you go to the Brown baseball page and click on the little tv-shaped "watch" symbol by the next few games (including Northeastern), it takes you to an ESPN+ page. So someone is streaming it via ESPN+.
I've recently discovered FloSports. They handled the broadcast for all the games at Port Charlotte this spring but they do more than baseball and more than Port Charlotte. It's not ESPN quality by any stretch but they move the camera around so you get a very good view of the pitcher and hitter but if your Son is a RF you are SOL. If you are a fan of say Army or Minnesota, and clearly a poster here is a fan of both, MN vs Creighton and Army vs Elon is on it today. NorthEastern vs BC is on this Tuesday but not the Brown game today. They have replays too so when I missed my son last week I was able to pay $30 (the monthly fee) to watch his game and use my iPhone to capture his highlights, but there are annual plans that are cheaper.

Thanks. This is the case with a number of games we want to watch. I was wondering about the quality. Is it one amateur cameraman (or even a student) trying to stream it or is it more similar to a regular baseball broadcast?
I got you now TBT. I have been streaming several games on ESPN+ for the last month and it's been great. It's worth the 6.99 a month. Especially for those interested in specific programs during recruiting.
I did find that particular game listed on the app which you asked about. Thinking about the last 2 games I watched yesterday, a mid D1 matchup and SEC matchup and now that I think about it there definetly was a difference in camara angles. That's probably the difference between conference $$ alloted on personnel and equipment.
BTW, nothing is like a MLB broadcast. LOL
I watch all of my son's non-conference games on espn+. The quality is better than your i-phone but not as good as sec network. It all depends on the number of cameras they have that night and who is running them and who is talking. Some of the games will have announcers who are not really at the games but watching the same thing you are so they only see what you see. The other night I did not see any of the three outs that were made. There was a fly ball to left and the camera showed the right fielder. There was a groundout to SS and all you saw was the ball flying across the infield, they had zoomed in too much on the pitcher. The third was a strikeout and they were showing the coach in the dugout. It is better than nothing and well worth the $6 or $7 a month. Plus I get to watch all the other games that are on it.
Seems very relevant to this thread: https://twitter.com/bigdonkey4...Vkcz1dRbHTod5YSwyWhA
Even D3 schools livestream their games - usually pretty amateurishly. Ours right now has a camera behind the plate, you can't actually see 1st or 3rd base. But at least we don't have to pay an ESPN+ subscription to see them!
MLB games show close up of pitcher's face - closeup of coach - closeup of someone in stands - closeup of batter - runner - pitcher - batter all between every pitch. It's kind of tedious. And not at all like watching live, where you can see what everyone on the field is doing.
Watched Purdue vs Illinois st Thursday night on ESPN plus was very high Def with good announcing...games are definitely hit and miss quality wise

Watching ACCN and SECN is really good. As close as you can get to ML game with close ups, replays, slow motion, etc.
To let you know how good, a few weeks ago a coach that I know took a trip to the mound and you could see close up he was not very happy.
I just checked into Holy Cross vs Brown on ESPN+, camara is stationary with view of field, can't see faces, didn't stay long enough to see if they covered the bases closer.
Assuming the offer is still available … If you have an Amex card you can get the Disney bundle (ESPN+, Hulu, Disney) free for three months. You get billed. Then you get reimbursed a few days later.
Go to the Amex app and check under “Offers.”
The quality of college baseball broadcasts has definitely changed in the past 10+ years. Fifteen years ago a couple of friend’s kids played for Vanderbilt. I watched a lot of games. I plugged my laptop into the tv. The broadcast was a fixed camera behind the plate. The broadcasters were students.
There still are fixed cameras behind the plate positioned somewhere in the stands.
Definetly worth a try for 6.99 cancel anytime. Plus all the other games going on, good baseball.
College ball has been fun to watch. MLB games have too much going on. Plus the announcers have been terrible for MLB. Seems like every time a game was on last year Arod was announcing.
There are also a lot of free games available through the ESPN app, without subscribing to ESPN+. If you have a smart TV or Streaming device like Roku, fire stick, or Apple TV that can download the ESPN app and login using your account from your cable provider. The app will show you which games are ESPN+ and can’t be watched without their subscription. Some regional games are also blocked out too depending on the market. It’s pretty cool to be able to watch so many games that aren’t available on the primary cable channels.
Agree with @edcoach. Hit or miss. I watched Harvard at Cal Poly recently. Limited number of cameras with trouble following the action. No replay. On-screen score and count problems. Broadcaster was not a student, but definitely less experienced than you find with P5 games. Having said that, I wanted to watch those games and I was happy to pay the subscription for a month.
Tuned into ESPN+ toward the end of son's game yesterday. Showed a pitch count of 170+ pitches. Definitely hit or miss on the EPSN broadcasts, but great to have them. I've mentioned it before, but if using on an ATV device you can watch 4 games at once.
