ESPN will determine the times games are played and all of the awards garnered at the end of the year. I know, now you think I've lost my mind. Well, the game times is now proven after Selig had promised in 2002 to the Redbird Nation that they would never endure another 10:00 game, he relents to the ESPN God. During these games this past week, they commentators have activly stated their MVP, Coach of the Year... Not only that but to the exclusion of facts and even the mention of other candidates names.

Please forgive the ramblings of a hacked off fan who now despises ESPN.

You have to know that FOX determines the prime-time game times, and they had decided to air HOU/ATL last night, meaning ESPN had no choice on the late late game. Look what they're doing to the Yankees and Angels. Prime time game tonite (to avoid the NFL and get the ratings), red-eye flight to CA, then prime time (Eastern) Monday, followed by another red-eye to Chicago for Tuesdays first round game. And to make matters worse, if there is a game 5 in the NLDS, HOU/ATL would ALSO be at 8. So, it should be FOX you should be mad at.
JT, just read another article that the real culprit, and I know I'm alone in my whinning and complaining, is the contracts to cover college football. Soooooooooooo, why wasnt' this considered when these contracts were sent out? Have I mentioned:

SEE WHAT HAVING ME STAY UP TILL 1:00 IN THE MORNING DOES TO ME! MAKES ME CRABBY!!!
This just in.... All games will be tape delayed and broadcast on your local PBS affiliate on Nov 1st, begining at 11 pm and showing all games in order, fast forwarding through the "boring" innings.

This will be followed by the award winning sports documentary, Baseball... Who Really Cares Anymore? (besides NY and Boston).

Followed by, I Am the Best an autobiography by Tim McCarver

Coach,

FOX actually determines the game tiomes. They get first pick of the games and ESPN broadcasts the 2nd choice.
IMO - ESPN, FOX, etc. are all very good for baseball.

People can complain if they wish, and they will, but I remember the days when "one" game a week was telecast. Also, remember some announcers being better than others. Dizzy Dean was my personal favorite and he said more stupid things than anyone.

ESPN gives us a ton of information and entertainment. Doubt it would be better for baseball fans without them! In the olden days (not that long ago) even the World Series was not during prime time. We should be thankful for ESPN and FOX Sports.

Guess I never cared who the announcers favored or what they say. I don't think the announcers can affect the outcome of the game.
A petition that originates at the HSBBW is cool. This site is so geographically diverse and has base of people that understand teamwork that we have the potential of a great grassroots campaign.

What we need is a generic statement with the ESPN email address. We then take that statement and send it to 20 people we know and tell them to cut-n-paste the statement, sign it, and send to the ESPN address, then send it to 20 people they know and so on and so on. We then let BA know of the coup and they will most likely put an article out. We let PG, TeamOne and any other group that has a baseball base in on it with the same message. If nothing else we fill the espn mailbox and force them to come out with a statement.

If you think about it the numbers are staggering.

I'll be the sacrificial lamb and take the lead if there is support here.

Any thoughts?

sounds great TR.

An example of the spreading value.

I send it to my son who has 30+ teammates who send it on to 20 others. Now if that chain works for just the initial 20 people we send it to the number gets into the thousands real quick. This concept works for High School and LL programs also. The kicker is the geographics of the petition, it is not regional but rather national request.

Coach, take a deep breath and chant (if you can't think of a good, relaxing chant, then try either "MVP, MVP" or "Reggie, Reggie, Reggie" Wink). I, too, am excited about this evening's festivities and a little off-kilter. But in a little over 5 short hours Redbird Nation will be yelling at TVs and radios all over the country. Get your good mojo working.

Should TV execs decide to influence the outcome of games (and I'm sure Bud Lite could manage to put the spin out there as how it was for The Good Of The Game), the country would soon tire of 162 Boston-New York AL games, and 162 Braves v. Bonds in the NL. Then we could start all over again. Wink

The Black Sox didn't kill baseball, nor did the union or free agency or steroids. Murdoch sure as heck isn't going to do it!
