I can only speak for what we do at our events

We permit the players to play all nine positions if they so choose. We do not believe a player hurts himself in doing this because the coaches in attendance will dsecide for themselves which position they like best for the player in their scheme of things

The idea is for the player to have fun at a showcase and playing many positions can do that
.

THhit....Would have loved to come to your showcase events....

While all the college coaches we have talked to have told us that being able to play mutliple positions really helps with roster limitations.....

It has been our experience that many of the showcases heavily discourage multiple positions.

It usually shows up in the applications in wording like this..."Please only list the position you feel you are most likley to play in college."

It has also been our experience that despite the requirement to choose a single position the more highly recruited players, those with a big "Rep" are often allowed and often enouraged as the showcase begins to show at two, or three positions.

I could be way off base on this, but we have often felt "position limited" by the showcase staffs. Don't know if others have had this experience....

Also.....That being said.....some showcases have lumped third basemen, shortstops and second basemen into a single group for defensive drills and let the coaches decide where they want to recruit them.

Just our experience after 2 players and perhaps 15 showcases locally, and regionally.

My son never did any large national showcases. However, our experiences were often like Observer speaks of. Many times, showcases or camps will say to pick one. Pro tryouts typically will only let a player do one as well. We always tried to pick things where he could hit as well as pitch. What one coach sees in a kid - another may see something totally different or may just have different needs.
