Tonight, a huge 3-game series between 2 Texas 4A teams (5A is the largest classification in Texas) begins in Corpus Christi, TX, at Whataburger Field, home of the AA Corpus Christi Hooks.

The participants:

Corpus Christi Moody High School - 34-2 record; ranked 3rd in the country by Rivals.com and 1st in the country by USA Today

Corpus Christi Calallen - 34-3 record; ranked 4th in the country by Rivals.com and 16th in the country by USA Today; the defending 4A state champion

The schools, ranked 1st and 2nd in the state, are only 15 miles apart. This series is the regional finals and the winner goes on to the state tourney, but many are saying that this series carries far more weight.

As of 2 p.m. today, Games 1 and 2 are already sold out, with more than 9,000 tickets sold for each game!

Game will be broadcast online at http://catsiradio.com/

Game updates will be posted on http://www.caller.com/

A little update on the series...

In Game 1 last night, Corpus Christi Moody prevailed 6-3 in front of 9,026 spectators. Calallen committed an uncharacteristically high 4 errors and Moody committed 3. I'm sure the large, passionate crowd rattled both teams quite a bit.

Calallen did not throw its ace, Oklahoma-bound LHP Jordan John, in Game 1. John will throw in Game 2 tonight and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi signee LHP Adam Hoelscher will throw in Game 3 tomorrow morning.

From Caller.com, here is a photo from last night and a link to an article on Game 1:

That made me laugh....many times, Ive left youth fields with a hotdog and a coke in lieu of my full fee......

just didnt quite make enough $$ to cover the umpires....

Corpus Christi Moody prevails and wins Game 3 14-4 after 5 innings (run rule).

Moody 3rd baseman Rudy Flores, a PG "10" who has signed to play at Florida International next year, went 3 for 4 with 5 RBI and scored twice, finishing a single shy of a cycle. He hit a 3-run homer, an RBI triple to right-center, and an RBI double to left-center.

Congrats to Moody as it advances to the state tournament!
