Before I got contacts playing outfield was really hard. I couldn't judge the ball and sometimes I couldnt see it at all. Right now I can't wear contacts anyway because I had bleeding in my eye and fractured my nose, but hopefully I'll be able to wear them by the time the season starts. Once I got contacts it was so much easier to see the ball not only in the outfield, but also at the plate. They really help a ton and they're not a big deal once you get used to them.
Players can play with contacts without any problems. My son has worn contacts since he was 11 and was a catcher/pitcher. I don't ever remember him having to come out of a game because of a problem with his contacts. He did have to put drops in one time. He just recently had the LASIK surgery and has gone from a near blind 20/400 (-8.50 contacts)to a perfect 20/20 and they expect his vison to continue to improve to 20/15.
