Had this happen in a Frontier League game tonite. Ball hit down the leftfield line. Opponent's catcher said after the game that the umpire had told him he lost the ball so he ruled it a home run. My question is if you lose a ball due to the lights, the dark, whatever, what do you call? Why?

I would imagine the umpire was the only one in the ballpark who actually thought that ball was fair. They said it landed on our clubhouse which is down the left field line partially in front of the foul pole.

Incorrectly calling it fair is always easily correctable, incorrectly calling it foul is usually not. In your case, the ball was dead (I am assuming it went over the fence) so either call could be reversed if the calling umpire chose to do so after consulting with his partner(s).
