Watching the Cardinals game last night, it was apparent that they were going to squeeze. Naturally, they did and it failed. What I didn't understand is why teams don't have a fake squeeze signal. Think about all of the positivies!

Should I respond since someday we may play each other? LOL! It gives you so many options. First, if the team is prepared for the squeeze say after the coach yells out watch out for the squeeze, you get to see how they have practiced to defend it. How often do teams change this? You will have something on them for the rest of the years you play them. Next, almost always, they are going to throw a ball out or up and in. Your batter is now ahead in the count. If it is a strike, I agree that you might have hurt you batter. However, you can still squeeze or fake squeeze again. If you show, and the infield adjust then you have created hitting holes since the infielders are closer. If the pitcher gets to 2-0, your hitter is going to get a better pitch to hit since they don't want to go to 3-0. If 3-0, then great squeeze because they are going to throw a fastball over the plate. Well, I could go on and on. Now, all of this also depends upon the quality of program you play. Some teams are just going to throw a fastball to get ahead and so, you can squeeze right away if you need to. JMHO!
we will fake squeeze a whole lot more than we actually squeeze - the threats still there though. good things can happen with the fake squeeze - balk, wild pitch, passed ball. 1st and 3rd is a good time for sac/safety squeeze. hard to defend. we do that often. i'll tell you this about the true squeeze on the high school level - we'll do it occasionally - but teams trying to squeeze against us have let us off the hook and let us out of more big innings than anything they could do. we have a pretty good knack about pitching out and high school hitters have a pretty good knack for not getting the bunt down. we love teams that want to squeeze. not saying the squeeze is not a great play but stats in our case show the odds are with us if we are on defense.
I use the safety more than the suicide..Saying that i bet we attempt 20 a year and we our succesful at least 50% of the time..we only put it on with good bunters(or weak hitters) and in good situations. I've found first pitch or 1-0 counts are usually the besttimes. We try to double squeeze 4 or 5 times a year..Fun for the kids if we get it..
