Looking for some guidance here from those who are more experienced.

Son is LHP/1b, 2007 graduate who is a rising junior. He is 6'0", 225 lbs, hits for average and power. He has a 4.0 gpa. He has decided to forego football this year to focus his off season efforts to develop as a pitcher and to aggressively continue to work on his hitting.

We live in a very tough area for baseball. No High School baseball, no fall ball of any sort, no indoor facilities, no private instruction available (although we are driving 4 hours one way to meet with a pitching coach, but can only do that once a month or so.)

Almost everyone from this area that goes on to play baseball in college does so via the JUCO route. In fact my '05 is just starting at a JUCO in Kansas. However, I cringe at the thought of my '07, 4.0 student having to go the JUCO route, I just cannot imagine that working for him academically.

I am looking for advice/suggestions for fall showcases that would provide maximum exposure given the time/distance/$$ constraints. We are willing to invest in his future, but do not have an unlimited budget. Would love for him to be able to go to something like Jupiter, but those seem to be local teams that travel to play in the larger tournaments.

At the moment, he is working on his own, and will continue that throughout the fall/winter in preparation for next summer. But I thought that others who are more experienced and familiar with what is possible might have some ideas as well.

Thanks, in advance.

Here is what I would do. I would contact Perfect Game and get your son to a showcase, the sooner the better. Once the PG staff has had an opportunity to evaluate your son. I would talk with them and see how your son fits in with respect to his ability to compete at national events such as Jupiter. I do know that PG puts players that are not on rosters of teams entered into Jupiter on PG teams.

There is an event out here called the Arizona Fall Classic that is held in Peoria, AZ {jus outside Phoenix} that is very well covered by college and pro guys.

Hope this helps
Would agree with Rsctt83...

The Senior Wood Bat Classic is huge for west coast guys in the fall. By this time the top prospects are verballing, and the jilted colleges are hungry. Would also suggest that you get on the board asap, but don't miss this if you are qualified and can find an team opening, have seen players signed on a stellar performance at this event.
Rsctt83 & observer44,

Thank you both for your suggestions.

Observer, I assume that you are under the impression my son is a rising senior. He is not, he is a rising Junior. So I am not that concerned that top prospects are verballing.

We are geographically a long way from anywhere, so I don't know whether anything will be possible for this year, but this certainly gives me some things to begin focusing on for next year.

Does anyone know what schools are typically present at the Az Fall Classic?
montanadad,

If it was anything like three years ago, there will be college coaches and scouts coming out of the woodwork. Ton's of coaches from ALL classifications. Every pro team was represented and some pro teams had as many as 6 scouts in attendance to try and cover more games.

Only downside was there were about 8 games going on at once so obviously coaches couldn't be everywhere. If you are on one of the "good" fall teams there will be more scouts watching. They definitely network so if someone is throwing lights out, they are there in a heartbeat.

It was the only showcase my son went to (didn't know about the HSBBW or Perfect Game then Frown) and although he only threw 3 innings in a 8:00 am game, still got letters/calls from a few DI's, a bunch of DII's and numerous JUCO's. Best thing he/we ever did in regards to being seen. Two thumbs up!!

Good luck!!

Strictly SR classic. I have no idea about the JR classic.

In re-reading your original post, I noticed there is no fall ball in your area. My son traveled 100 miles every weekend to Denver to play on his fall ball team. Other than the travel, it worked out great for us. They charged us $200 to play for them which they found a sponsor for and the airfare to Phoenix cost around $200. Everything else was paid for.

If I remember right, you can contact the AZ people and they might be able to place you on a team.

If it was just a hundred miles, we'd do it in a heartbeat.

As it stands now, it would be 4 hours one way for practices, 8 - 12 hours one way for the scheduled tournaments. $1000 to play on the team plus all travel expenses.

We might have to put this on the agenda for next year, unless I could find something that was just for the AZ classic.
