My son (Senior) has been contacted by 5 colleges this fall. Had we not played Fall ball that would not have happened. The best was the PG Showcase in Waco. We also received a few JUCO calls from Showcases played at these schools.

Yes, it is somewhat of a hassle to play in the fall after a long summer, but especially for the kid who doesn't already have the name recognition I feel it is critical. My son will play college ball due to the contacts we made this fall.
Yes After the Baylor showcase I had about 5 calls from schools and after the Tech one I had about 3 calls. I just had one today 3 weeks after the Rice showcase asking about one of our kids they saw there. We are focusing more on our 17 year old kids. From our 18 year old team all but 2 kids have commited and both of them have offers on the table. They just haven't made there mind up. We have kids already commited to (2)Baylor, (2)Texas A&M, Texas, Arkansaw, DBU, and a number of JC.
As a lot of you know,I am currently in the process of coordinating a tourney the end of this month (we have a committment from 6 local 5A HS Fall Varsity Teams).

After reading about all the Fall showcases on this thread I had a brainstorm idea about how to add another element to this tournament and I will let you all know if it pans out. (prior to this post I did post on the recruiting thread to see if this idea was ok in the world of recruiting as I don't want to do anything that is a "no-no" and got positive feedback).

I have identified 18 schools in the area (Juco's mostly) and will be sending out a press release/invite to each of them letting them know about this tournament, the teams playing and the game times. By doing this I am hoping to attract some interest, from the coaches at these schools in teams/players that are playing in our tournament.

My hope is that some of the schools contacted realize the opportunity that this tournament presents and they come out to watch these players in a competitive enviornment. All games are played over a 2 day period on 1 field......

The BEST result of all of this (sending out info.) would be that at least 1 or more players, that haven't been seen yet, is seen and contacted by one of these colleges, what a great side benefit this would be for this tourney that is already a wonderful tribute to a former coach.

I will let you know how it turns out.....good or bad.

dallbb and Cade -- great news! -- those of us whose kids will experience fall showcases in the future are glad to hear the positive results....especially calls that come in weeks after the games are played. I believe it remains important to be a part of a program that has a state-wide reputation and an ongoing relationship with the coaches.

It is my understanding that the college coaches cannot contact a kid directly, via phone, until June 1 preceding their senior season, but it's certainly nice to earn your way onto a "watch" list, for lack of a better word. That's what these events are all about, eh?

Cade -- I understand some of the showcases record 60, home-to-first, pop times, etc. In your opinion, how would you rank these measurements in order of importance. For example, if a kid has an average 60 speed (7.0 or 7.1 for instance), but an excellent infield pop -- will he be viewed more positively than one with a 6.8 60? I know much of this depends on what a coach is looking for, but I'm looking for your feedback on a high level.

dallbb -- great feedback, especially on the PG Waco event. I can't wait to hear (later, when appropriate) about your son's decision.

OBN -- good idea to invite the coaches! Smile

First of all I would like to thank Cade, Kyle, John Fuqua for putting this Fall Showcase together. My son plays for the D-Bat Showcase team. My son is a Junior and was contacted through Cade by several colleges. I told Cade that he does not want to go to a Texas School. Cade's remark was make a list of where he wants to go and I will call them for him. That is what a good Fall Showcase Coach and Coordinator does.
I would also like you to remember that the experience the kids are getting is great. The hitters are seeing the best pitchers and the pitchers are seeing the best hitters.
Thanks again- D-BAT
