Hello everyone. Our family is moving from Ohio to Dallas Texas. My son will be finishing up his Fall freshman semester of baseball at a D2 school here in Ohio. He signed and receives some athletic money. He doesn't want to be that far from family, so is looking to find a JUCO in the Dallas area, that he can transfer to, and continue playing (while he figures out the rest). Anyone familiar with Dallas JUCO baseball? Recommendations? As a parent, the NCAA website is far from clear on this particular circumstance of going for D2 to JUCO. Any insights on that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Eligibility rules are mostly applicable to the division that you're transferring "to". So, this mid-year transfer to juco would be pretty simple. If he intends to transfer back to an NCAA school after juco, then the 4-2-4 transfer rules come into play. The rules are a little different between D1/D2/D3. He will probably have to stay at the juco for one calendar year before transferring to a new NCAA D1 or D2 program. He'll just need to keep his grades up and show academic progress while at the juco.
As a D2 student athlete, he'll have 10 full-time semesters to play his 4 seasons of baseball. (Not 5 calendar years like in D1.) Probably not an issue, but taking the spring semester off might make sense if you think his college playing days could go beyond 5 years.
UT Dallas is a very good D3 program.
I will send you a PM. I live in Dallas but I am a volunteer Asst Coach at a Texas Juco & I have a son playing Juco baseball in Oklahoma.
Definitely check out some of the JUCO programs in Oklahoma as well as Texas. Depending on where you live in the Dallas area, Murray State is about 2 hours away and Connors State is about 3.
Let’s see... if you start on I-20 and head West from Ft Worth you will pass Weatherford, Ranger, Cisco, Howard, Midland and Odessa Jucos along the way to New Mexico. I believe they are all D1s
