Fantasy Football Leagues / Gambling

I was driving to work today and heard a commercial for one of the fantasy draft leagues. It made me think why is that legal to do, the only difference between that and betting on NFL football is your just betting on a hand picked team instead of an already established team.

Then I see a tweet today about the NCAA preparing to punish NCAA athletes with an one year ban if they are caught participating. Anyone seen or heard anything about that. Thoughts?

I have to think a very high percentage of students and student athletes partake in some sort of fantasy leagues.

For many, many years, many billions of dollars have been made via illegal gambling on NFL games. The league has finally figured out how to get themselves a nice slice of that delicious pie.

Gambling laws have always carved out exceptions for fantasy leagues and pools. I wish they would simply stop the charade and just regulate online sports gambling.

I think the NCAA rule is specifically about gambling on college sports, so kids can still play the NFL versions of DraftKings/FanDuel. When the federal government can't pin down these sites as gambling (they claim to be games of skill), how is the NCAA going to? Oh yeah, they make up their own rules.

Draft Kings is based in MA. The state AG is after them. It will be interesting to see what happens. Chances are they will leave the state or country driving away tax revenue.

Son was read the riot act in the last few weeks about gambling Which includes final four pots and several other things. I don't remember all the specifics except for final four. It mentioned about losing eligibility and scholarship.
