Ryan,
As you know there is no hard and fast rule for D-1 velocities, it all kind of depends on the complete package. Having said that...I'll take stab at some "ballpark" numbers.

Lefty...
85-86 with a really good breaking ball and/or change

Righty...
87-88 ...preferably low effort / cruise control type

Again, these are just ballpark figures. Sounds like you could get there ... with a good LT/arm care program.

Ryan,
Try to improve your arsenal. A 6'3 lefty who learns a new pitch is like Christmas morn.

Should your fastball have late movement, command both sides of the plate, and with an off-speed thrown for strikes (and misses bat), there is always a place on a roster for a contact type situational relief arm as a freshman southpaw.

And of course I must ask (and be careful with
your right answer): What is your best pitch?

cheers
Bear

postscript: Sorry Seattle, yes there are LHP, and the reason why they pitch well into their early 40's is because there are very few of them (when compared to available RHP)!

CADad will chime in on this once he get's online with more detailed information.

What is your cruise velocity? What is Max? What gun are the measurements with? Jugs or Stalker.

You have size that will get you some projectability but my guess is that you will need to be working around 85 max 87 to get serious interest. You have another year so you should be in pretty good shape velocity wise.
OMG,

Zero disagreement here.

a) My Decateur works just fine.

b) My Ray Gun reads about 6-7 mph slower than a Stalker. For example Ray Gun 80. Stalker 86.

c) I have seen two arms read over 90+ on my gun in thirty years. The first is a HoF. The second is Amando Benitez. Amando was with the O's farm system (before traded) and just so happened to be closing at the Shipley Field (when Bowie was being built.)

d) Yes, Stalker's are issued equipment by MLB (if that is consider as a Gold Standard by the author).
However, there are more Jugs Gun around, are less expensive, easier and cheaper to operate, have a longer life-time (so far), and are second to the radar guns as seen in the movies (Ray-Gun is Hollywood's preferred 'Standard').

e) The obvious question that needs to brought up here is NOT velo's for pitching prospects (which helps many part-time young scouts and newbies) but can the kid flat out pitch, miss bats and or get outs at the next level?

JUGS read 1 to 2 mph less. My son seemed to throw 2 mph less on the Stalker that a college coach used at a camp. My son seemed to throw 2 mph less on the Stalkers that PG used. On the other hand the only time I got actual side by side readings I sat next to a college coach who was using a Stalker and we got a 1 mph difference on almost every pitch. Only 1 pitch was 2 mph different. We were gunning other pitchers and not my son that time.

The interesting thing was that when we tried to use 2 JUGS guns side by side the readings varied greatly. I believe there was some interference going on.
