Speed is important, take a good look at the sox record last year when a speedy leadoff hitter was missing, don't think the speed of Pierre will help the cubs this year. Ask any pitcher if he doesn't like 3 speedy ourfielders behind him or if a speedy runner on first base doesn't sometimes disrupt his concertration or the pitch he might throw to the next hitter. Spped isn't the only thing by far but it is a factor in many games, from extra basehits, scoring stealing and of course defense in taking away hits.
Yeah CoachB,

You've got nothin' again, just like last year and the previous 5 years! The newspaper article was terrific, but it blows your cover. I'm very impressed with the loyalty shown you by ex-players who now return to coach with you. I hope your players know just how fortunate they are to have a coach like you who not only teaches them baseball, but much more on the lessons of life. Have a great season.

itsrosy, both Coach Bugger and Coach Drake were college coaches. Coach Bugger was the hitting coach for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. I gave him a call and begged him to resign and come here to help me. Coach Drake was an assistant at another very successful local school that I once coached at. Coach Drake also coached pitching in college. Last year, I got on the phone and told him I was going to have an assistant's position open and would he resign his job and come here. He did! I'm very fortunate. As I've mentioned several times, I'm the most blessed person on the face of the earth.

BTW, I have 3 kids that have over 30 career stolen bases returning. One of these has closer to 50. We have two another speedsters that are going to play. We should be able to run some. Of course, they won't be like my first team here where I had 3 guys steal 40+ and two others steal 25+. That was real team speed.
