Field of Dreams

Shoeless Joe Jackson: The first two were high and tight, so where do you think the next one's gonna be?

Archie Graham: Well, either low and away, or in my ear.

Shoeless Joe Jackson: He's not gonna wanna load the bases, so look low and away.

Archie Graham: Right.

Shoeless Joe Jackson: But watch out for in your ear.

It's such a great movie and this back-and-forth between Archie and Shoeless Joe always makes me smile for all the right reasons.

With college baseball starting in the south, high school kicking up all over the country and Spring Training starting in less than five days I thought a thread on the movies and quotes that remind us why we love baseball would be decent.

Tell me, because I'm relatively new, if this is okay, on hsbaseballweb. Thanks

My all-time favorite baseball movie is "For Love of the Game". I've seen it dozens of times and I still route for Gus to get a hit when he steps to the plate. There's just something about pulling for someone who's been in a slump...

And then there's "Bull Durham". My son doesn't get tense on the mound very often, but when he does, we yell "Breathe through your eyelids." Works every time.
Oh Guys, those lines from Field of Dreams are priceless! My son's senior HS year video begins with "the one constant...." - gives me goose bumps every time I hear them!

KMom - For Love of the Game is one of my all-time favorite movies - not just baseball. As a matter of fact, I haven't watched it in sometime. Think I'll pull it off the shelf this weekend!

Had the pleasure of working on the world premier of For Love of the Game. Walked away with some very special memorabilia from the cast dinner and party. My son the ballplayer got a special invitation to view the movie that night as a belated birthday gift. I thought it was one of the best baseball movies for a lot of reasons, although Field of Dreams is incredible. Also something special about A League of Their Own. A piece of history all but lost.

Come to think of it, every baseball movie is special...

It's very possible that some of the best lines from For Love of the Game wound up on the cutting room floor. There is a dvd version with cut scenes / outtakes that every baseball fan ought to see.
From 8 Men Out:
Buck Weaver: You get out there, and the stands are full and everybody's cheerin'. It's like everybody in the world come to see you. And inside of that there's the players, they're yakkin' it up. The pitcher throws and you look for that pill... suddenly there's nothing else in the ballpark but you and it. Sometimes, when you feel right, there's a groove there, and the bat just eases into it and meets that ball. When the bat meets that ball and you feel that ball just give, you know it's going to go a long way. ****, if you don't feel like you're going to live forever.
A great line that was left on the cutting room floor....

It actually was in the trailer but not the film....

Major League, Charlie Sheen talking to Tom Beringer.....

Sheen "Man that ball was hit.... that would go out in any park"

Beringer "I know some parks that could have held it"

Sheen "Name One!"

Beringer "Yellowstone"
Don't want to hijack the thread, but there were 2 great quotes in the movie Vision Quest [about wrestling].

"It's not that it's only for 6 minutes - it's what you make happen in those 6 minutes" [could easily change '6 minutes' to '9 innings'

"If you want something, you have to be willing to take a risk. If you want it bad enough, you have to be willing to risk everything."
From Field of Dreams:

Kinsella: Dont we need a Catcher?
Joe Jackson: Not if you get it near the plate we dont!

Terrence Mann:
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.
