fielder's choice 'error in judgement' | High School Baseball Web

If a runner at third and ground ball hit to short....runner at 3b wonders off bag and ss thinks he has a play and so throws to 3b but runner dives back safely....

i scored this safe on a fc but what about the throw to third...is there an error recorded here somewhere?

You are correct to score as a Fielder's choice. The ss would have recorded an out at first but chose to try and get runner at third. As you describe the play no error would be recorded. Errors are only recorded in a situation like this if a base runner advanced to a base he would not normally have advanced to. Say the throw got away at third and the batter ended up on second. It would still be a fielders choice, but an error on short or third that allowed the runner to advance.
