Lake Mary upset by Lake Brantley last night. Defense wins in the playoffs,, Coach went with a defensive lineup that has cracked all year,,,, 5 infield errors and a costly baserunning error in the 2nd inning was the difference in the game.

Lake Mary had two of the best pitchers in the area,,,, but the 80 innings on their #1 showed last night, poor management of the pitching staff all year by LM coaching staff. Complete games had to be pitched at all costs and the cost was being eliminated in Districts!
LAKE BRANTLEY COACH MIKE SMITH SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF. AFTER THE LAST REGULAR SEASON GAME,HE CUT A SENIOR WHO DIDN'T PLAY AND ADDED A FRESHMAN TO THE TEAM.THAT IS DIGUSTING. THE SAME SENIOR DIDN'T PLAY MUCH AT ALL THIS YEAR WHICH WAS FINE,BUT THE COACH DIDN'T EVEN PLAY HIM ON SENIOR NITE AND CUTS HIM A WEEK LATER. I AM SORRY,BUT SOMEONE SHOULD TAKE CONTROL OF THAT PROGRAM AWAY FROM THE COACH. HE DOSEN'T DESERVE TO KEEP HIS POSITION.
I first started to post after BlackKnight's post concerning the errors
that Lake Mary made last night. We are feeling the same way as Olympia
committed 6 errors on simple plays that most JV players would have made yesterday. Boone was held to one hit through 7 innings and was down 1-0 going into the seventh. Two errors and no hits produced the tying run. Two more errors in the eighth gave them 2 more runs. They ended up with 3 total hits and the win 3-1.

There is no doubt that these boys were trying their best and certainly
wanted to make the plays, it's just very frustrating to end the season
with a loss that should have been a victory. Hopefully these underclassmen will put this behind them(they are fine young men) and will be much better next year. To the seniors, Good Luck to you and know that you gave it your best!

To Seymore, I know we don't know the whole story but on the surface it
doesn't look good. I feel for the seniors at Edgewater who lost the game on a dropped popup. I feel for the seniors at WinterPark who were
one out away from victory. And I feel for the young man at Lake Brantley who was not allowed to be on the team for the district playoffs. There are stories at every school. If they gave it their all
they should be proud of themselves.

Two very good Pensacola teams will be coming out of District 1 in 4A. It's always "iffy" with the one game "win or go home", but either Tate or Escambia should be able to make a good run in the playoffs...both have good "D", potent offense and quality pitching staff. They play tonight for the district title.
Florida Christian (Miami) is the team to beat in 2A.

Their record doesn't tell the whole story as most of their losses were in close games to state champion contender and nationally ranked teams from larger schools (Gulliver, Killian, Pace & Southridge) and were in part caused by the mistakes a young team is prone to make early in the season. But the tough schedule and the intense work of the coaching staff has prepared them well. Their defense is probably the best in the state (especially up the middle), and their pitching keeps the other team in check by working the corners and not issuing walks. Florida Christian also had to beat two of the top ranked 2A teams (Miami Westminster Christian & Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy, which was ranked nationally) to get there, so clearly they have put it all together for the post season.

While anything can happen in a given game, and the other three teams (Ocala Trinity Catholic,Tallahassee North Florida Christian, & Fort Meade) all look strong, Florida Christian clearly should be the favorite in Tampa next week.
