After a 1 year delay, I finally got to see my oldest son start his first college game.

It was 35 degrees outside with about a 20 MPH wind. It was blankety-Blank Cold.

He went 6 innings giving up 5 hits (all grounders through the infield), 4 runs( 2 earned), struck out 5 and walked 1. He took the loss.

But you know what, I couldn't have enjoyed it more if it was 75 outside and he pitched a no hitter!

After screwing up so badly last year he could have easily given up, but he didn't. He switched schools, got his grades back up and here we go. I am very proud of him.

Congrats.

Warmer weather is on its way, but I guess when you are playing in a wind chill of around 15 degrees, it has no where to go but up.

It's amazing how fast the game goes when it's that cold. Nobody stands around and the coaches don't flash a bunch of signs in situations when everyone knows there is nothing on.

Great news Big. Congrats to your son. I had to laugh about your weather since I originally am from your area, just a little north. I went to school at UW-Superior. (Born in Duluth, Mn.)This winter though was tough even in N. Nevada and reminded me why I left "home". Take care and wishing your son much success.
BigWI, I am a little late in seeing this thread, but I am thrilled for you and Geoff, too! Thanks for sharing the happy news, and I understand about how great it is to see him play his first college game, even though he took the loss. (Plus I agree that with ground ball hits, he might just as well have had better results with a little luck.) Best wishes to him for a great season!
