A bit of an oddity probably, I know many juco's, and some d1,2,3 schools offer firefighting courses specifically - does anyone have any examples of oportunities for bb players at these schools?

As you indicated, you may want to check the JC route as your first step:

A friend of mine's son (2010) is also interested in Fire Fighting and he found a JUCO in Danville, VA that had that major and baseball that they're looking into. Don't really know any more about it than that at this point, but they are out there. Hopefully that will help somehow!

I believe Guilford Tech in NC also has a Fire Science program and plays in Region 10 JUCO. The Illinois Fire Academy is on the campus Of UI in Champaign.
Oklahoma Sate University offers a BS in fire protection and safety engineering technology.
It's a D1 school. My husband is a fire fighter and I know that having a BS degree will enable your son to make lots more money. And baseball can be icing on the cake : )
