My son has been gone a week now.
I called him several times but he never intiated calling home. I wasn't at all surprised; he has never liked talking on the phone.

Then my phone rang. Anxiety gripped me as I saw his picture icon on my cell.....he's calling, what's wrong!!
I ripped open the face bringing it to my ear, "Hello, hello...."

"Hey, Mom, guess what? We just had an intersquad and I got to throw two innings and I was the only freshman the coach singled out...."
And on he chatted....well, chatted for him. I had to ask questions to get most of the details.

I guess they will always let you know about the important things 14

It does feel so good to hear from them, doesn't it! Smile

When my son left almost three weeks ago, he called me probably four times that day (I headed up with most of his stuff later that day). He called several times that first week, but then ???????? Once he had friends, classes, and baseball I rarely heard. We as parents, do have to understand that they are starting their adult lives and give them the space to do so. They just have no idea though how sweet that phone call is to us! Big Grin
