My son will be attending his first showcase on Sunday. Any advice? Should he bring anything else besides his baseball equipment and his hustle? How about a short resume? The form he filled out online did not ask many questions. I was wondering if he would be asked to fill out a more detailed form at the showcase (height, weight, gpa, act scores, etc)?

I don't remember anybody asking my son for any stats/personal material at his first showcase. Keep it simple for him. Hustle and willingness to do anything. Run fast for everything. Haircut. Look people in the eye, shake hands with everyone. Introduce yourself. Always look like you're ready to play. I remember one coach commenting that my son either always had a bat in his hand or was juggling a baseball..even standing in line for stuff. I don't know what that means exactly..but anything to make your son stand a bit helps. And at the end, go up to every coach and thank them personally. Good luck. Remember to keep track of any coaches/schools that he gets in contact with..and get their names!! Always helps when you can say "We met at _____ showcase last summer".
Mom,...dont forget the camera and/or video camera! Gotta capture those special " firsts " !!

Don't forget sunblock!
Dress like a ball player, no sweats or shorts.
Once you pull into the parking lot,..its SHOWTIME!!
( make sure son carries his own gear, water, etc. )

Run past the finish line,...( Make sure son makes his own visual finish line behind the real finish line. Alot of players slow down prematurely while running the 40 or the 60 )

Be prepared with both tennis shoes/turf shoes and cleats. We've had weather turn bad and the showcase brought inside. One never knows. Better to be prepared for any condition.

( We have never been asked for a resume at a showcase. )

HAVE A BLAST and give 110% the entire time!!
Best of luck!!!!

P.S. Good advice from Newcomer about bringing food and water!!

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for the replies and information. The showcase was postponed until this coming Saturday due to weather. This works out better for us because my son was playing in a tournament this past weekend and would have had to leave in the middle of a game. He pitched that same game and did a great job. His team (high school) beat an 18-19 year old team that had 9 signed players on the team. A great boost of confidence for a small high school team. I will post on Monday to let everyone know how the showcase went. thanks again
1st showcase went very well, very organized and well run. My son seemed to have enjoyed himself and didn't seem to be too nervous. I loved it, but I could sit and watch baseball for 12 hours straight.

I feel he did really well on pitching, I have watched him pitch for years but never realized he can put the ball right where he wants to. They had them throw differen't pitches (curve, slider, 2 seam, 4 seam, change up) I had never actually watched the ball from release to the plate (always too busy watching the batter and the ump), his movement on the ball was great and he nailed every pitch. One of the coaches shook his hand and slapped him on the butt after he pitched. Hopefully that was a good sign. Thanks again for the helpful tips.
