Hahaha! No I'm not closing threads. Although I did close the latest. Just tired of reading the same old poor me posts. I'm pretty sure everyone is.

Don't be so sure. I thought the exchange was interesting as well as informative. Lots of insight traded back and forth in some healthy and thought-provoking ways.

The goal is not always to keep the peace. An exchange of opposing ideas often is a very good thing, as well as tolerance.

I agree with jemaz. I think that closing a thread should be a last resort, not just because you are tired with the thread. I was actually enjoying parts of the debate. JMO.

Besides, who let you out of romper room anyway?

I support Flip's decision. I may not agree completely, but the moderators have the rights to do it and I don't think that Flip having the guts to say he closed it should open him up to ridicule. I thought the thread had been hijacked and was sick and tired of being beat over the head with the same droning on as well. I think that there is a difference between exchange of information and blatantly flaming and trolling while others derive amusement from it. I have had threads that I was passionate about closed by anonymous moderators who found it distasteful. I did not re-open the thread or argue with their decision.

That being said. FlippJ using the reason that you did makes it sound like your reason was a personal decision. You should probably make the decision for the best of the site, not persoanl tastes. I think you closed it correctly and had the right idea, but expressed it in a manor that left you open to criticism. JMO

Perhaps the answer is this. Individual moderators -- as a rule of thumb -- ought not be closing threads. If a single post is offensive, then delete it or edit it. However, when a thread is closed, it ends all discussion, often to the detriment of the broad community.

By the way, I don't see any ridicule of Flipp going on here. And, I too, could reopen the closed threads. I have no idea what Bob's position is on this subject, but I am not going to inject myself into Flipp's decision. I will, however, discuss it because I believe it is another fine topic for discussion.

I sincerely apologize if my reasoning for closing the thread wasn't acceptable. In my mind tjro had taken the thread, like most (all?) of the threads he participates in, to the point of no return. Because of that I made the decision to close the thread. I have no problems with anyone disagreeing and I apologize for venturing outside the "romper room". I just felt it needed to be closed and since nobody had done it I felt I'd step up to the plate.
