Many of us are in the path of this Hurricane. This one reminds me so much of Fran. Fran was a CAT 3 when it made landfall at 115 mph. Florence is a CAT 4 projected to be at 130 mph when it makes landfall. We were without power for several days and the wind damage and flooding was unreal from the coastal region all the way through the piedmont. If you will please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. For those in the path and potential path I will be praying for you as well.

Thanks

Baltimore is roughly 400 miles as the crow flies from W&M.

Bottom line it isn't supposed to make land fall around Wilmington NC till some time late Thursday / early Friday and get stuck on the coast in the Carolinas... I would guess you will be down and gone before the storm really reaches Baltimore assuming gets there at any point.

if you are concerned move the flight to Philly it will give you another 90 miles or so buffer and you can drive to Baltimore in 90 minutes from the philly airport straight down I-95.

I'm supposed to go to Fredericksburg a week from Sunday...let's hope it doesn't affect too much.

Don't count on it.  I'm 35 miles east of Fredericksburg (King George County) and we are looking at 15-20" of rain and from what I can tell at least gale force winds.  Florence is taking a similar track to Hugo and Isabel.  We lost power for 5 days from Isabel due to many trees down.  Winds were clocked at 88 mph sustained with gusts up to 100 mph.  I hope and pray it's not like that.

That crow needs a GPS. Closer to 140 miles for Baltimore to Williamsburg.

yea you are correct, it about 400 miles from Wilmington NC where the storm is centered...allegedly.

My point is if he is supposed to land 400 miles north of storm landing somewhere between 5 and 12 hours before the storm makes land...it may be a bumpy ride but I think he is clear.

I do storm damage - people get real excited - it seldom meets expectations but you still have to be prepared. Contractors make a bunch of money so that is good!

If you are evacuating, do it now.  Don't wait until there is uncertainty with the roads/floods.  The "fog of disaster" takes over and news reports are not reliable on what roads are open.  First responders are overwhelmed during a hurricane.  Several families lost family members in Harvey because of late evacuation.  They lost their nerve during the storm, left on a road that was once reported as opened, then get washed off the road.  A family of six in a van were all killed when roads they were trying to flee was flooded.

The forecast track of Florence has changed slightly.   Looks like a high pressure over NY/PA is going to push Florence west once it comes ashore.   The cone of uncertainty no longer includes Fredericksburg.  We'll still get a decent amount of rain and wind, but I think it won't be as bad as the original forecast.   The cone of uncertainty just misses Richmond according the latest update.  But take that with a grain of salt - it could change again in the next 12 hours.

old_school, ,...Don't get me started ...on the "contractors"...We have had so many "storm chasing con artists" here the last year, it's criminal what some folks have had to go thru! I'm thankful I haven't rushed to rebuild! I just hope folks in Florence's path will be safe!

yea roofers are the worst but none are innocent. I do utility work so nobody cares what gets charged...as long as the stuff works.

Definitely not making light of this in any way but my teenage son said last night.  Dad if we get those kinds of winds near here can I go throw and you clock me.  100MPH winds have to help my fastball velo.  Always thinking baseball.

Um, yes.  Think Maryland is very concerned about flooding.  Daughter goes to William and Mary and they closed school with mandatory evacuation.  Got he the last available train ticket back to CT.

CTbballDad,

keewartson is back at W&M this semester!  I was planning on eating peanut butter for a few days with just my DH and I, but son came home Tuesday night.   Cleaning out the frig/freezer/cabinets  with son home now lol!

Here in the NC foothills, we currently are "only" supposed to get 10-14" of rain and gusts in the 40s.  Flooding will be an issue, but the bigger problem will be trees that take out power lines when they fall b/c the ground gets so soft.  Power outages are going to be so widespread in the Carolinas that we're being advised it could take 2 or 3 weeks to restore some areas.

And we're a lot better off than folks closer to the coast.

Our good fortune has become others misfortune. With the shift to the south we missed the heavy winds but still are under flash flood warnings. But the southern part of the state and sand hills are getting hammered. It’s absolutely heart breaking what many of these people are facing. Please pray for those facing the loss of everything they have. I’m praying that the loss of life is minimal and the rain stops earlier than predicted. I’m still trying to wrap my head around 40 plus inches of rain.
