McCormack is right choice

FAU searched the nation, but at the end found the best candidate was the one already on its payroll. John McCormack will be the next baseball coach at FAU and Craig Angelos could have looked high and low but wouldn’t have found anyone more deserving of the job.

McCormack has been at FAU for 18 years - since the Owls were a fiesty Division II program - and thanks to many years of hard work by Kevin Cooney and McCormack are the Owals are the type of team no one wants to face. (Just ask Miami.)

The powers-that-be at FAU did their due diligence, and I can’t fault them for that. And it probably would have been easier to have hired one of the coaches who have College World Series experience who were interested in the job, but in this case Angelos stood up and did the right thing - he hired a coach not for his past or name recognition, but the man who will do the best job at keeping what Cooney built going,

One gets the impression there won’t need to be a large buyout here. McCormack is about as loyal as one can get and will only want what’s best for the program. It’s good to see that rewarded.
