My father started college at a Big Ten school to play football. After an injury he transferred to a NESCAC to play baseball. He was a bright man. He attended college after being a WW2 Marine. It's what happens when you graduate high school in 1942. He only provided one piece of advice in my sports career. I whined once. He told me one choice would be a pussy and quit. The look in his eyes said there was another choice. Ever seen a glare say "Man up and fight for what you want?"

When I was fifteen I made the mistake of taking a swing at my father. I think he broke the world's record for flipping an opponent on his face and putting a knee in his back. He then said, "Never f*** with a Marine trained in hand to hand combat." My only reply was "yes, sir."

Very rare, but we have one right now. The kid is great. He is extremely smart and talented in many ways. However, he is not the most talented baseball player. He knows this and admits it. The parents, on the other hand, see things through rose colored glasses. They are the biggest complainers on the team and very passive aggressive. It completely embarrasses the kid. Even though he is about 10th on depth chart as a PO, he comes to every game and practice with a smile on his face and gives it his all. Really a great kid, but very rare.
