quote:COLUMBIA, MO. — When the winningest senior class in University of Missouri football history takes Faurot Field for the final time Saturday, it does so with a tailwind of accomplishment.
So many of the contributions that electrified a dormant program can be measured in numbers. Quarterback Chase Daniel is on the verge of his third 3,000-yard passing season, the only three in school history. Tight end Chase Coffman has an NCAA record 230 career catches, and kicker Jeff Wolfert is MU's career scoring leader with 319 points. But one of the 23 seniors had a different role in this revival — a role not quantified by statistics but by his decision.
Chase Patton chose to stay.
"We call ourselves a family, and I'm not just going to walk away from a family just because I don't like my role in it," said Patton, the Tigers' backup quarterback. "You can play the what-if games, but all that does is take away from what I need to do now. Who knows what would have happened if I (transferred) somewhere else? I just choose to trust in the fact that I made a decision. And I've grown with the program here in ways I never thought I would."
